Dev Releases
Want to help make jScompass Better? Consider being a tester. First, join the jScompass_Testers group on There, so you will get jSmail notifications of new development releases.
NOTE: The download on this page is not for most users. It has not been tested as much as a general release, and could potentially crash your There client, cause lag, or other serious problems. Please do not upgrade to it unless you have the most current release version downloaded, in case there are problems and you need to remove this development version. In addition, when a final release is available, please upgrade to it as soon as possible.
There is currently no development version of jScompass available.
If available, the latest version of jScompass dev can be downloaded at this link: http://www.jscompass.org/jsc-downloads/download.php?fileid=dev-latest. If you get an error when clicking this link, then no dev version is currently available.
If you experience serious issues with this version of jScompass, you may need to use the Clean-Up Tool, which will remove everything in your compass folder, so that the normal installer can copy the files properly. This tool can be downloaded from: http://www.jscompass.org/jsc-downloads/download.php?fileid=cleanup.
RELEASE NOTES:
2010-02-30 4:30PM ET, version 1.45 dev rc03:
- Fixed problem with sending jSmail in rc02.
2010-02-20 3:42PM ET, version 1.45 dev rc02:
- Added support for action tags (thobs). A number of new commands are added to support this, including the generic /tag <action tag name>, as well as some specific ones, like /spa, /hearts, /spades, /ssmute, /tip, /lookat, /joinchat, /leavechat, /sit, /stand, etc. /loadtags will load all the tags in the area, or they'll be loaded on the first use of the command. Also, a background loading of thobs is also possible with the options in the jScompass Settings Panel. In addition, thobs are placed into a library for a certain number of days to reduce the load times. However, this can get quite large in some cases. The Settings Panel has a parameter to define the number of days to keep entries in the thobsLibrary. Some action tags cannot be invoked with jScompass, such as the "Enter/Exit" tags in a Therehouse. Finally, these functions cannot be used on sparkles. I hope you enjoy this new addition to jScompass, which like anything else may have a few bugs to work out. If you encounter a problem, please let me know. Thanks!
Changed /rep. Now you can specify the avatar name or text you want to rep, and it will search the chat history for the first match. Thanks to renae521 for this idea!
Added /buzz. /buzz is a way to get the attention of someone who may be on DND or otherwise busy. It honors vemote ignores so if someone is bothering you, type /ve iggy <name> and they can't buzz you. You can also include a message, "/buzz jerseysteve87 IM ME NOW!!!" Thanks to XXXNisha999XXX for this idea!
2010-01-21 10:04PM ET, version 1.45 dev r01:
- Added teleport panel. This command allows you to teleport to saved favorite or compass teleport place. To open or close the panel, type /goto or /tel.
- Added /twinkle. This command allows you to rotate your changeMe items, similar to /rainbow. If done without parameters, it will rotate your eyes (contacts). You can also use this command with parameters, the first parameter being the changeMe type of the item, and the second optional paramter being the search string inside that clothes type. For example /twinkle head the punk will rotate all of your "The Punk" hair. Or, /twinkle foot will rotate all of your footwear.
- Added support to days-based advertisements to /ad manager.
- Fixed annoying bug in random number code.
- Action mode improvements. Many commands were changed to "guicommand" type commands. Some commands now allow "on/off" setting where they previously did not.
- Fixed bugs in paintball panel.
- Fixed bugs in new /url code, and added support to open the video URL with an action button in the video player window. Thanks to CakeBatter for this idea!
- Changed server ad location, as a very few people were having problems with the server-ads.xml file, which seems to be due to the name of that file (triggering some type of blocking by anti-ad software). The new location makes no reference to ads in its URL.
- Improved support for "push" advertising.
- Improved /dressup to always wear a different item each time it executes, instead of a straight random item. When you have more then one of a certain changeMe type item, it will wear a random item EXCLUDING the last item worn of that type.
- Many other small changes and bugfixes.
- Removed ThereTimes and TherianNetwork commands, as those sites are no longer active.
- Added /rwear, which works like twinkle but only changes once. For example, /rwear outfits will change into a random outfit.
- Added additional options when clicking an avatar name in the log panel. Previously, it would open the profile page. Now it will open a subpanel with several options. Double clicking a name continues to open the profile, and closes the subpanel.
- Added System Message listener, which will record in the chatlog under a separate panel. In many cases, avatar names will convert to links that open the subpanel listed above, or other useful links.
2009-12-24 03:38PM ET, version 1.39 dev rc00:
- The jScompass server now caches YouTube vemotes and URLs (/yturl). The first time a video is played it will be sent as it normally was (from YouTube). However, it will also download a local copy to the server and use this copy for future requests of the same URL. This is useful to reduce the wait time for YouTube vemotes to start playing.
- Added /ve reoffer command to re-offer any vecollection offers that you did not previously add.
- Added /retfrom all, which will retrieve all items on loan to any avatar.
- Made changes to listener core to resolve some problems that can cause IMs to stop being listened to in some cases. The new method is considerably more stable and also seems to have a performance advantage.
2009-12-22 01:04PM ET, version 1.39 dev r03:
- Redesigned how vecollections work. The edit vecollections panel is replaced with “Manage vecollections”, which is based on the new way of doing things. This panel includes a vemote browser, where you can browse vecollections and play any you’d like. This was a substantial change in code on both server and compass side, so please test and let me know about any problems that happen.
- Restored /vout command, in a different way that does not have the privacy considerations of the old command. To use this command, both you and the person you’re using it on must be users of jScompass Platinum. Also added a “Platinum options” section to the jScompass Options panel, so you can configure “Always ask”, “Always allow”, or “Always deny” for this command.
- Redesigned /fav command to use a new type of XML Parsing, which should be slightly faster but more importantly have considerably less lag when parsing. If it works properly in /fav, I will next apply this new method to “My Things” commands like /hold.
- Many small changes and fixes.
2009-11-28 10:49PM ET, version 1.35 dev r04:
- Fixed "close There central" always operating, regardless of the selected option.
- Redesigned the msgbox system into "complexbox", which will allow more configurability in the box design. This will allow additional box sizes, and also means that ads appearing will not pop up until the image and/or MP3 have fully loaded.
- Added Paintball Functions panel. This panel allows you to quickly take out a paintball gun and turn your forcefield off at the same time. It also has a reload button, and when you click the button to activate it, it will copy a special command into your clipboard that will allow you to reload by pressing CTRL-V. The Put Away function on this panel also will ensure your forcefield is enabled.
- Added server-side support to allow config overrides on a per-avatar basis.
- Fixed title bar not restoring when using ~unoverride command to unoverride the holiday text/colors.
- Added a webpage that will open when the Flash local storage pop-up is triggered, that explains what the pop-up is and that I recommend clicking "Allow".
- The 1.35 test version available at the link above includes a fix to the /ad manager with the suspend/resume function.
Release notes about the current development version are listed here. When a version is generally released, the development release notes are merged into the Version History page, as well as listed on the blog entry for that release.
