About jScompass

jScompass is a “compass replacement” for There.com.  From its humble beginnings in February of 2009, jScompass has grown into a powerful utility making many aspects of Therian life easier and less time consuming.  While jScompass was once based on the same ActionScript code base as other compass replacements for There, it was rewritten in June, 2009 to eliminate any connection from the past.  What emerged was an even more powerful utility.  jScompass offers many unique features not found in other compass replacements, including:

  • The ability to use your “My Things”, “changeMe”, and “Favorites” directly with the compass, through commands such as /hold, /takeout, /wear, /outfit, and /fav.
  • Video emotes (called “vemotes”), which respond to triggers like ;tth, ;dangbaby, and ;lost.  Some of these vemotes are installed by default with the compass, but several people have also created vemote collections (called “vecollections”) that can add new triggers to your compass.  Added vecollections is always optional.  You’ll never be forced to display things you don’t want.  It’s easy to create your own vemote collections, and it’s even easier to share them with others once you have.
  • jSmail - a fast, easy, and reliable way to communicate when your buddies aren’t in There.  jSmail is mini-email system built into the compass.  With it, you can send messages to other compass users which will be delivered when the user comes back in There.  While Theremail is best for some types of messages, for most, jSmail is faster and more direct.
  • Many more customization options then in other compass replacements.  Want to change your compass colors?  Easy, just click the jS button and choose jScompass Options.  Want to change the text someone sees when the /ping you?  Just type /myping and the text, such as /myping I love jScompass! and it’s done.  These are just a few examples of the high amount of customization possible in jScompass.  Settings are saved on the jScompass server and are available whenever you log into There, on any computer.  If you don’t want the compass to save information to the server, just install jScompass Basic, which disables that feature.  Then you can edit the XML files normally (as in other compass replacements) to configure things.
  • Many commands not available in other compasses, including commands to take advantage of new features that have come out in recent months, such as the /uhud command for the Usage HUD.
  • Easy, fast support in a dedicated There group for jScompass, as well as support through IMs in-world or jSmail.

Over 4000 avatars have tried jScompass.  Nearly all of them still use it.  Shouldn’t you be next?
